As Christians our problem is that we have a secret life – the secret thoughts, lusts, ambitions, resentments and pride that lie hidden deep in our hearts. They may be hidden from our pastor, our wife or husband, even from ourselves. We are ashamed of this secret life, but find that we are powerless to change ourselves.

But God wants to expose and deal with these dark, hidden areas, and Jesus tells us that our ‘secret life’ can only be dealt with by another ‘secret life’ – a secret lifestyle of almsgiving, prayer and fasting.
